PPC team qualifies in PAT testing and Asbestos Surface Removal – flooring news

The Preparation Group ( PPC ) has further qualified its workforce. With an emphasis on health & safety, members of its team are now fully trained to carry out PAT (portable appliance) testing and Asbestos surface removal.

Says Tracey Glew, PPC – Group Managing Director; ‘The PAT testing service offered by The Preparation Group’s engineering team can be implemented whilst machines are being serviced or repaired and this applies to any make of surface preparation equipment.

PAT testing is a legal requirement and applies to any electrical item which can be moved whilst connected to an electrical supply.

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) states that 25% of all reportable electrical accidents involve portable appliances and The Electricity at Work Regulations place a legal responsibility on employers, employees and self-employed persons to comply with the provisions of the regulations and take reasonably practicable steps to ensure that no danger results from the use of such equipment.’

‘In adapting to our customers needs we have also qualified our entire contracting team of 40 operatives in the removal of asbestos surfaces, a nuisance and potentially dangerous material.

Our team can identify whether asbestos is present, determine its type and condition and safely remove it at the same time as carrying out normal, daily surface preparation, removal & finishing works.’

Asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) can still be found in many buildings and tile flooring, sheet flooring and flooring adhesives for example, can contain asbestos particles. Most asbestos removal work will require a contractor holding a license from the HSE.

Concludes Tracey, ‘We are committed to training and health & safety and are delighted to be able to extend our range of support services.’
