Milliken’s LVT Innovations Offer a Practical Alternative to Wood, Stone and Concrete Flooring

The advent of enhanced digital design has been a major contributor to the extraordinary growth in Luxury Vinyl Tiles as a practical alternative to wood, stone and even concrete flooring.

While the choice of LVT products on the market continues to grow, ensuring a strong balance of performance, aesthetics and sustainable attributes is important in making the optimum product selection.

Following its launch in January this year, Milliken’s new LVT design collection is proving to be a preferred flooring solution for a variety of work and social spaces.

Designed to combine with Milliken’s extensive modular carpet ranges, their LVT collection is now opening up a world of new creative and practical opportunities for flooring specifiers.

FREELAY – for quick and easy installation

With six signature designs, the Milliken FREELAY range offers a very simple installation process for the fitting team, while delivering excellent comfort and acoustic qualities for the user.

Emulating their natural counterparts, the products have been created in large format tiles for products mimicking stone or ceramics or planks in the case of the wood influenced designs.

With its minimal-glue installation method, the FREELAY range is increasingly recognised as a highly beneficial hard-flooring solution where under-floor access is important.

From a design perspective, Polished Concrete has become a popular choice.

With its natural hues, the design offers all the desirability of the ‘industrial chic’ look but with the practicality and easy maintenance that a vinyl product offers.

When combined with Milliken’s inspiring carpet designs, such as their Clerkenwell collection’s Triangular Path the floor is lifted to a whole new level of urban sophistication.

For those looking to co-ordinate Milliken’s LVT with its carpet designs, their colour coding system is helpfully designed to cross-reference across its product lines to enable specifiers to easily identify co-ordinating colours.

The other designs in Milliken’s FREELAY collection span from the cool, clean minimalism of Fargesia Bamboo to the distressed and stripped back aesthetic of Heritage Wood.

A recent office development at Worship Street, London EC2 chose Heritage Wood in a light white colour (HER218) for its flexible work spaces.

To complete the FREELAY collection, the deep, rich tones of Kokutan offers an additional choice in wood with a luxurious look, while PowerGrid 5.0’s geometric and tight woven textures creates impact on the floor.

Finally, Eero provides a more abstract choice with fading layers and architectural details.

I can’t believe it’s not wood!

Milliken’s standard glue-down LVT design collection offers a broader selection of ten incredibly realist wood and stone aesthetics.

This is where today’s photo-realistic design capability really comes into its own.

From the rustic warmth of Aged Oak to the cool authenticity of the Stone and Serpeggiante designs – when laid across a floor you truly need to touch the product to believe its vinyl.

For the wood designs, the realistic look is further enhanced by the plank format embossed textures and micro-bevelled edges.

In the Abstract category Eero 2.5 and PowerGrid 2.5 are also available as part of the glue-down range.

Engineered to perform

From a maintenance perspective, by its very nature, vinyl can be a highly pragmatic flooring choice.

However not all LVT products are born equal!  Milliken’s robust multi-layered product is engineered with an impressive 7mm wear layer.

Its accreditation of Class 34 Very Heavy Commercial Use – the highest physical performance classification is testament to the quality of the product.

With Adámas™ polyurethane and silica bead coating for additional scuff and scratch protection it can withstands heel indentations and as such is given a 12 year wear guarantee.

A sustainable choice in hard flooring

While the LVT products clearly offer a ‘best of both worlds’ flooring solution in terms aesthetics and performance, the question of sustainability as always is an important factor for consideration.

As you would expect from Milliken, their LVT product doesn’t compromise.

As a FloorScore® certified product, its LVT products meet strict indoor air quality and volatile organic compound (VOC) emission criteria for LEED, BREEAM and other green building certifications.
