Jaymart’s Multi-Directional Grime-Rail Firefighter at King’s Cross Station

King’s Cross Station, St Pancras, an underground station and major London railway terminus, has recently installed Jaymart’s Multi-Directional Grime-Rail Firefighter heavy duty entrance matting system.

Jaymart Rubber & Plastics Ltd, established in 1967, has been supplying London Underground for over 25 years, since the King’s Cross fire disaster in 1987.  After the disaster, London Underground contacted Jaymart to develop and manufacture an entrance matting to their exacting specification, and the result was Jaymart’s “Grime-Rail Firefighter” specialist fire-resistant low smoke emission ribbed rubber/aluminium entrance matting system.  This product is particularly suitable where fire safety, low smoke and toxic fume emission are of critical importance, and Jaymart has recently relaunched the Open Construction variant with the specialist fire retardant strips also on the underside to accommodate the London Underground’s special drainage grid system.

“Grime-Rail Firefighter” is the specified entrance matting for all London Underground section 12 stations.  Underground stations include:

  • Stratford Station
  • Wood Green Station
  • Euston Square Station
  • Dalston Station
  • Shoreditch Station
  • Hoxton Station
  • High Barnet Station
  • Mile End Station
  • Aldgate East Station

“Grime-Rail Firefighter” 16mm gauge is available in Open (Heelsafe) or Closed construction, and is DDA compliant for use by wheelchair users.

Also available in Jaymart’s vast range of specialist floorings, mats and mattings is “Alligator-Track” for non section 12 stations and many other public and commercial building entrances.
