Fine wine complemented by fine flooring solutions

Like a good wine, first impressions, great taste and presentation are considered essential when it comes to flooring installations and even the smallest detail can tip the balance on quality. Therefore, it’s no surprise that innovative products from Schlüter-Systems have been used to complement the interior of a new English wine experience.

Opening its doors in April, West Street Vineyard brings a whole new world of wine to East Anglia, with the visitor centre housing a modern café, private dining room facilities, tasting cellar, conference facilities and a wine and gift shop. So, when fitting out this new space it was essential to use high quality products that not only looked good, but could cope with the demands of its use too.

Construction Consultant, Dayle Bayliss, asked the tiling experts on the project to suggest the best way of protecting the imported Italian tiles used for the flooring and they came back with one answer – Schlüter-Systems.

She comments, “One of the main criteria for the flooring installation was to ensure that the imported tiles, fitted throughout the basement, ground floor and first floor, were protected from any movement by using stress-relieving expansion joints.

“With this in mind, I consulted the tiling installers and they suggested that Schlüter®-DILEX was the only product to use. Such a recommendation was down to the fact that they had experienced problems in the past without the use of Schlüter-Systems products and they had found that prevention was definitely better than a cure.”

The Vineyard project also specified a contemporary interior, meaning the flooring had to match up to the style of the visitor centre. Schlüter ®-DILEX provided practicality with a designer edge. Dayle explained, “The movement joints we used were able to provide the ultimate security, whilst discreetly blending into the flooring design thanks to the availability of colours and materials from the extensive Schlüter-Systems range.

We installed Schlüter®-DILEX-EKSN, using the light beige insert, the stainless steel joints ensured tiles wouldn’t bulge, tent or crack from the substrate, yet they also matched perfectly with the surroundings. The level of finish was absolutely gorgeous and having never used Schlüter-Systems before I was very impressed.”

West Street Vineyard also boasts the protection of the original uncoupling matting Schlüter ®-DITRA which provides a proven solution for uncoupling and waterproofing. Standing out thanks to its innovative technology the distinct matting from Schlüter-Systems was used to neutralise the tension between substrate and surface, whilst also providing high load resistance – perfect to prevent unnecessary pressure or cracks on such beautiful flooring.

Dayle adds, “Tiled flooring is becoming very desirable within new builds, retail and within projects such as this one. Therefore, to avoid any problems down the line and to ensure an easy and straight forward installation I will now be highly recommending Schlüter-Systems for future projects.”

Carl Stokes, Divisional Manger at Schlüter-Systems comments, “We are very pleased to hear that a professional such as Dayle has been impressed with our range of Schlüter®-DILEX movement joints and our highly praised Schlüter®-DITRA matting.

Prevention against tiling problems is easily avoided if the right products are put in place during installation and we are pleased to see projects such as West Street Vineyard are using our range to ensure that the flooring beneath their feet is secure and protected.”
