Bedfordshire Manufacturer CAT Flooring Accessories Celebrates 40 Years of British Manufacturing

A Bedfordshire manufacturer employing more than 50 people is celebrating 40 years in business this year.

CAT Flooring Accessories, based in Bedfordshire, has reached its 40th anniversary milestone, marking four decades of British manufacturing, skilled craftsmanship and continued investment in the local economy.

Founded in 1986 by Paul Hayden with just three UPVC sections and one brass profile, the business has grown into one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of premium stair nosings, floor trims and bespoke flooring profiles. Today, CAT offers more than 500 products across aluminium, brass, PVC and stainless steel, supplying contractors, architects and distributors across the UK and international markets.

Over the past four decades, CAT products have been specified in high-profile venues including Grain House in London, Theatre Royal London, Heythrop Park and Victoria Palace Theatre demonstrating the reach of a business that remains proudly rooted in Bedfordshire.

A significant chapter in the company’s journey came in 2021 when it became part of the wider COBA Group. Under the leadership of Business Director Danni Cooke and Operations Director Josh Cooke, the company has continued to invest in people, infrastructure and production capability, while strengthening its position as a specialist in bespoke and fabricated profiles, operating out of Luton, Bedfordshire.

In 2024, CAT completed a major rebrand and launched a new website to make it easier for customers to access product information and technical support; part of a broader strategy focused on modernisation and sustainable growth.

Despite its national profile, CAT remains committed to local manufacturing in Luton. The company holds one of the largest stocks of brass profiles and continues its long-standing tradition of hand-finishing products at its Bedfordshire facility. Its bespoke capability allows it to work closely with contractors and designers to deliver tailored solutions for complex or high-end projects.

The business has also received multiple awards from Contract Flooring Journal, recognising its quality and contribution to the flooring sector.

Alongside growth, sustainability is a key focus for the next decade. CAT is currently targeting ISO 14001 accreditation by 2027 as part of its commitment to environmental management. Many of its core materials already contain high levels of recycled content, and all metal trims are fully recyclable at the end of their service life, supporting more sustainable construction practices.

Speaking about the milestone, Business Director Danni Cooke said: “Reaching 40 years is a proud moment for everyone at CAT. We have built our reputation on quality, craftsmanship and strong partnerships, and that comes down to the dedication of our team here in Luton. As we look ahead, we are continuing to invest in our people, our technology, stay ahead of the trends and sustainable manufacturing so we can secure the next 40 years of growth.”

Looking to the future, the company plans further product development and continued investment in machinery and production capabilities, ensuring it remains competitive while safeguarding skilled manufacturing jobs locally.

As it marks its 40th anniversary, CAT Flooring Accessories remains committed to the principles it was founded upon: high-quality British manufacturing, hand-finished excellence and customer-focused service, building on its Bedfordshire roots while supporting projects across the UK and beyond.
