USPTO will issue patent related to mechanical locking of lvt / resilient floorings

USPTO will issue patent US 8,365,499 related to mechanical locking of LVT/resilient floorings

United States Patent and Trademark Office, USPTO, will issue patent US 8,365,499 onFebruary 5, 2013. The patent is relevant for mechanical locking of resilient floorboards. The patent protects methods for assembling resilient floorboards provided with a mechanical locking system by using the resiliency of the floorboard. By bending a first floorboard along its edge when the edge of the first floorboard is positioned over the edge of a second floorboard, the floorboards may be joined and mechanically locked together at a first portion while the floorboards remain in an unlocked position at a second portion along the edge.

By joining the floorboards in a stepwise manner, the force required for locking the floorboards together is reduced compared to locking the floorboards in one step. Thereby, the resilient properties of the floorboard are used to facilitate joining of the floorboards.

The patent application was filed on September 3, 2010, and claims benefit of a US provisional application filed on September 4, 2009.
