Since 1962 the Richard Whittaker business has steadily expanded.
An independent supplier of starches (both native and modified) and a major producer of dry powder blends.
They now occupy 86,000 sqft in Rochdale, Employing over 100 staff and operating six blenders 20 packing lines, when it came to the application of safety demarcation lines and crossings they had various issues.
Firstly, because they operate a 24-hour shift pattern, they needed to consider the logistics, costs and inconvenience of applying lines and production implications.
Also, they needed a system that would not require frequent re-application as this would only duplicate the application issues and increase life cycle costs.
Practically they were aware that many other companies introduce lines which become ineffective due to wear and tear, as well as aesthetically losing impact due to fading or the difficulty of cleaning.
Their opinion was applying a line that, within a relatively short period of time, becomes indistinct or broken, is basically a waste of time.
After consideration and deliberation, they chose Solidlux Instant Coatings.
This is a revolutionary patented system that works at the speed of light.
It is 100% ‘Cured’ immediately under portable UV lamps.
The production area remained accessible while work was in progress and the resulting finish was fully load resistant both chemically and mechanically within minutes.
Now it is totally UV stable and colour fast while being exceptionally easy to clean.
John Caldwell, the Project Manager, says of the Solidlux system, “We wanted a line marker that was more robust than the average line marking spray we’d used in our previous facility.
Coupled with us being a food factory, we had to keep any odours to an absolute minimum, durable to a large fleet of fork lift trucks and to be dry for use – virtually at once, to avoid any disruption.
A tall order we thought, but Solidlux Instant Coatings had all of the above covered!
We had lines and crossings installed around production limitations, with minimal downtime and it was ready to use as soon as the UV cured it!
Six weeks later the lines and crossings are still as fresh as the day they were installed; now we are wishing we’d delayed making the videos of the factory until after Solidlux had worked their magic.
