Reflex Sports’ maple strip sports floor, designed by Kährs, has been installed at the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London.
Specified throughout all ten studios, the prestigious installation spanned over 1,000m². All flooring was installed by Reflex for main contractor, Coniston Ltd. It was laid over a resilient understructure system and a durable sports finish satin lacquer was applied after installation.
Established in 1981 in London’s Drury Lane, The Sylvia Young Theatre School is a specialist performing arts school offering vocational and academic education. It recently relocated to a converted church in Nutford Place, in the London Borough of Westminster.
As part of the extensive refurbishment, the Kährs-designed sports floor was specified to provide both performance benefits whilst complementing the ecclesiastic architecture. The EN Standard compliant system provides superior shock absorption, giving protection against injury and improved energy return, so that performers tire less quickly.
The sports and performance prefinish also provided the correct traction, whilst promoting easy maintenance and providing durability.
