OSMO ADDS COLOUR TO LONDON’S PLEASURE GARDENS
Osmo UK’s Country Colour finish has been used to create an eye-catching, multi coloured public bench that has been designed and installed at London’s Pleasure Gardens as part of an architecture competition.
Pews & Perches is a competition that was arranged by RIBA for architecture students, graduates and emerging practices to design a bespoke public bench for London’s Pleasure Gardens – a new unique and high profile entertainment destination in East London which opened in June 2012 in time for the London Festival of Architecture. Of the winners, graduate, Caroline Lundin, designed a colourful, organic, lattice structure bench consisting of rainbow colours created by Osmo’s Country Colour.
“The RIBA competition presented a brilliant opportunity for winners to showcase their art,” explains Caroline. “I decided to create a playful bench that referenced rainbow dyed sweets and children’s toys. Osmo kindly agreed to support my project by donating its Country Colour finish in 16 unique colours. It was very easy to mix and apply, and allowed for the thorough coverage of the wood. I applied it with a brush and was delighted that there were no streaks or ugly bumps. I have already received many positive comments, and look forward to using these products again.”
As well as the wonderful selection of colours, Osmo’s exterior finish is resilient to all weather conditions, making it the perfect product to ensure the bench will maintain its appearance throughout its two year installation. Country Colour is an opaque, satin-matt wood finish which is available in a selection of 18 colours, extending to 186 RAL shades when mixed together. This finish is usually applied to provide a splash of colour in the garden, on timber cladding, fences, garden houses and furniture.
“We are delighted that we could help Caroline with this project” says Steve Grimwood, Managing Director of Osmo UK. “The bench she has designed is fantastic and shows off our product to its best. I expect that members of the public who visit the site for music and art events will be delighted with this piece of furniture.”
