Kahrs’ Maple-FSC sports system has been specified and installed, by Reflex Sports, at a new community facility for sport charity, Whitlingham Boathouses Foundation Ltd. Situated on the banks of the Norfolk Broads, the £1.2m centre will provide a rowing and canoeing facility, as well as a regional centre of excellence for the sports. The Swedish-designed floor, from Kahrs’ Activity Range, was specified for the gym and lounge areas, spanning an area of over 260m2.
Situated within Whitlingham Country Park, the new boathouse sits at the junction of the Rivers Yare and Wensum. It is a two-storey building, with a largely timber-clad exterior in keeping with its idyllic, rural setting. On the ground floor, it will provide rowing boat and canoe storage for around 200 boats, whilst the first floor includes a clubroom, changing facilities and gym space, with balconies overlooking the river and parkland.
“We’re incredibly proud of Whitlingham’s new boathouse, which will cater for sportsmen and women – from novice to elite, and international – as well as people who simply want to enjoy recreational sports. Kahrs’ sports system forms an integral part of the structure, fulfilling performance and practical criteria, as well as providing a stunning, eco-friendly surface,” commented Max Heron, Whitlingham Boathouses’ Trustee.
