Lanes Group has achieved its seventh consecutive Gold Award in the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2016.
The accolade qualifies the Leeds-based company, the UK’s largest independent specialist drainage and structure maintenance solutions provider, to retain its Gold Medal for achieving more than five consecutive Gold Awards.
The RoSPA Awards, presented by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, are among the most prestigious occupational health and safety accolades in the UK – and are celebrating their 60th anniversary.
The Group is a leading supplier of drainage and maintenance services in key industrial sectors, including construction, highways, rail, energy generation, insurance, local government and utilities.
Its Managing Director Wayne Earnshaw said: “We’re delighted to have retained our Gold Medal in 2016. It shows our consistency in achieving internationally-recognised standards for health and safety.
“To achieve a RoSPA Gold Award we had to provide a detailed account of our health and safety strategy, policies, procedures and performance, backed up by evidence in dozens of supporting documents.
“This rigorous examination can give our customers, staff and the wider public confidence that we are serious about health and safety, and are continuously looking at innovative ways to improve our performance still further.”
RoSPA Awards test all aspects of an organisation’s occupational health and safety systems, including training, risk assessment, incident monitoring and investigation, communication and staff engagement.
Julia Small, RoSPA Head of Awards and Events, Small said: “To win such a highly-regarded award recognises commitment to maintaining an excellent health and safety record, and raises the bar for others to aspire to.”
Lanes Group could point to a series of significant health and safety, and wellbeing, initiatives introduced during 2015, across all operations, to support its RoSPA Award submission.
The company’s first full staff survey, which featured health, safety and wellbeing questions;
Development and introduction of an industry-leading vehicle maintenance app;
A programme to introduce heart defibrillators in depots to support the Lanes workforce and local communities;
Achievement by Lanes Group Board Director Conrad Ashby of the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety with distinction;
More stringent depot auditing procedures, supported by an enhanced digital health and safety management system;
And more rigorous drug and alcohol testing.
Lanes Group will receive its Gold Medal at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole hotel, on July 13, 2016, during a special event to mark the awards’ diamond anniversary.
