HELPING BUSINESSES NAVIGATE OLYMPIC TRAFFIC CONCERNS

Businesses with vehicles can now mitigate the road and traffic disruption caused by this summer’s Olympic Games in London.

Specialist mapping, data and routing expert PIE has advanced its Data Exchange service to help businesses navigate the significant road closures and restrictions caused by the Olympic and Paralympic Games throughout the city.

“With the capital’s roads facing unprecedented pressure this summer, businesses are having to make important decisions and contingencies in order to keep their vehicles moving around the capital’s roads as expediently as possible.” said Freddie Talberg, CEO, PIE Mapping.

A web-based system, PIE Data Exchange currently provides businesses with up-to-date information on navigation and complex on-street time and day dependent restrictions right across the UK. All data can be provided for a navigation, routing, or destination specific need and the powerful engine can even provide accurate ETAs.

The advancements made to the system specifically for the games include the addition of the official Olympic and Paralympic Road Networks (ORN/PRN), temporary banned turns, road closures, changes to direction of flow, road events and restricted areas.

Data Exchange is also capable of providing users with pure data outputs, integrating with existing routing systems or back office tools, and even providing a bulk output of routing options for journeys throughout London.

“This significant update, combined with the level of detail and speed of updates that the PIE Data Exchange already provides, should come as timely news to those businesses most likely to be affected by the big event,” added Freddie.

Having already developed Transport for London’s (TfL) Freight Journey Planner for fleet operators, PIE are currently working with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) to provide an accurate navigation system for the Games Family.
