Central Flooring Services install resin floor for Monarch Airlines

Monarch Airlines have constructed a brand new 12,000m2 maintenance hangar facility large enough to house two Dream liners the largest aeroplanes that can land at Birmingham Airport.

The hangar is so large that the aeroplanes can pull in one side, turn and exit back out the other door.

The high profile project required a new high-density concrete slab to be installed to cope with the weight and structural forces from the aeroplanes.

The resin flooring requirement was for a Skydrol resistant floor coating and also for speed of installation. A damp proof membrane and exact line markings were also required to guide the aeroplanes into the hanger.

The specification put forward was to prepare by shot blasting Altroproof Solo (damp proof membrane) and Altrotect Plus (FeRFA type 3) epoxy coating.

John Sisk were appointed as the main contractor for the structure having completed previous hangar projects for Monarch and at Birmingham airport.

Central Flooring Services were appointed for the installation of the resin floor, being ISO 14001, 18001 and 9001 accredited and putting forward an inspection and testing procedure and performance bond, with recommendations from FeRFA, Altro, previous John Sisk projects and hangers for BMI baby and West Midlands Police.

John Sisk were very pleased with Central Flooring Services performance on the project and Monarchs MD inspected the project himself and was highly delighted with the end result.
